Golfing for a Cause: Foss Maritime Marks Seventh Year Sponsoring the Towboat Invitational

Co-hosting a golf tournament to benefit The Heat Institute at Virginia Mason

SEATTLE, August 2, 2006 – For the seventh consecutive year, Foss Maritime Company (www.foss.com) joined fellow marine transportation company Sause Bros. in hosting a golf tournament to benefit The Heart Institute at Virginia Mason and the Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon. The Seventh Annual Towboat Invitational was held on July 31, 2006 at The Reserve Vineyards & Golf Club in Aloha, Oregon. This year’s event was the most successful to date, netting nearly $200,000 for the two non-profits.

The money raised at this year’s event will be used to support state-of-the-art technology for The Heart Institute at Virginia Mason and to support programming at the Boys & Girls Club in Coos Bay, Oregon. Since its inception in 2000, the event has netted nearly $1 million.

“Foss is proud to have established a tradition of giving back to our communities in a real, tangible way,” said Scott Merritt, Vice President of Harbor Services at Foss. “We are looking forward to working with Sause Bros. to raise even more money for these important organizations next year.” Mr. Merritt was joined by Dick Lauer of Sause Bros. in presenting the checks to the organizations, and the two have begun working together on next year’s invitational.

The 160 participants at the sold-out event enjoyed a day of competitive golfing, dinner and evening festivities, and a live auction led by Dick Foley of Kingston Trio fame.
