Foss Line Handling

Foss Maritime offers expert line handling and support services, along with many other Terminal Services, in several ports on the U.S. West Coast.

Puget Sound Line Services
Foss has provided safe and reliable line handling services for ships calling on the port of Tacoma since 1930, and since 1973 in the port of Seattle.

The managerial and supervisory teams that lead our professional and unionized labor personnel have won multiple safety awards from the Pacific Maritime Association, Washington State and Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administrations (OSHA). Foss Maritime’s Line Service Managers average more than 10 years of experience and are continually trained in the latest safety and prevention measures.

El Segundo Line & Launch
Foss operates state-of-the-art line boats that secure the ships moored at the El Segundo offshore moorings. This required service works in conjunction with a crew launch vessel and powerful Tractor Tug –providing a seamless and competitive package of safe operations in this challenging environment.

Columbia River Pilot Launch
Foss has provided safe and reliable pilot launch services to the Columbia River Bar Pilots and River Pilots for over 60 years. The state-of-the-art pilot boat, Connor Foss, has operated in Astoria, Oregon since 2012.

Featured Projects

Foss is proud to serve our global community with specialized maritime services. From providing disaster relief efforts in the United States, Haiti and Puerto Rico and emergency rescue towing to most recently towing a decommissioned Navy vessel from the U.S. West Coast to Texas via the Panama Canal. During the initial months of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Foss assisted the USNS Mercy ship into the Port of Los Angeles to serve as a backup hospital for the city of Los Angeles.

Our Fleet

Foss Maritime is dedicated to industry innovation and creative solutions. From introducing the first tugboat launches in Tacoma in the late 1800’s to diesel tugboats and developing the first Tractor tugs and one‐of‐a‐kind hybrid tugs. Foss has been focused on optimizing our fleet from the very beginning. We continue to build, design and add state-of-the-art vessels to our powerful fleet and most recently added three ASD-90 Tier 4 tugs which meet the EPA’s highest emissions standards.
