For those interested in accommodations in walking distance to the channel to Brownsville (you’ll be very close to the USS Constellation when it passes) the closest is the Isla Blanca RV campground with spaces from $25-40/nite.
If you’re not staying at the RV park it costs $5 to park there for easy access to the channel.
    Other walking distance accommodations are:
The KOA campground has rental cabins 800-562-9724.
Schlitterbahn Beach Resort is the closest hotel on the beach (with a waterpark)
    956-761-1160
Gulfview II condos for rent 956-761-6416
Pearl – upscale highrise hotel 965-761-6551
Beyond that, the walk is getting long but you can stay anywhere on the island and park for free at Schlitterbahn for a short walk to the channel. There is a free shuttle every 1/2 hour to all points on South Padre Island and across the Queen aisabella Causeway to Port Isabel.
We watched the USS Forrestal pass there last year. Very cool. Bring camera, beach chair and refreshments as the wait can get long.
It’s going to be cold and possibly rainy on the 14th so be prepared.

My father served on the constellation. Is there any way of purchasing a small piece of the old girl before it gets scrapped?

  3. Jenny

My Dad was on the Connie back the the days and since we are unable to see the carrier for the last time, when you scrap the parts, would the public be able to buy parts as a memory?

You will need to contact the company who is dismantling the vessel.

Very Nice. Will we see ship from S Padre? Do you have arrival time for Brownsville?

    Hello..

Wondering if the arrival date is still sometime on the 14th? If yes, would the entrance to the port be on the 15th? Thanks.

We are at the Hilton in SPI and will be on the jetty taking pictures. Thanks for keeping us posted.
