Lighterage barges -

Foss owns and operates two self unloading bulk cargo lighterage barges in service to Cominco Alaska, operator of the Red Dog Mine, located approximately 100 miles north of the Arctic Circle in Northwest Alaska. The specially designed lighterage barges permit cargo discharge in sea conditions previously considered too rough for such operations. Use of lighterage barges requires less dredging and smaller vessel loading facilities. This permits a project to begin with reduced capital outlay.
